||the michelles are a bonafide mongrel of a band and have all the more bite for it. hailing from america, sweden, wales and the uk, the boys have now rooted themselves in berlin. taking influences from the strokes, the beatles the michelles fire together reliably crunchy guitars with more spontaneous rhythm and melody than your average line-up.
||Tim grew up in a small southern town, south of Richmond Virginia USA, called Colonial Heights. He went to Church and actually liked it because of the choir and music, except for some of the people. Once his house did not have a toilet, stove, or refrigerator for a year. His sister died when he was younger. They had a dog outside tied to a pole, called OREO (cause she had a black head, white neck, and black body...like the damn cookie!), and the bigger, older kid named Jimmy down the street knew, or at least thought he knew Karate, and always kicked Tim off his bicycle, but he probably works at McDonalds now..no offence to anyone who works at McDonalds...I am sure it is wonderful. But even then, we were probably the least White Trash family in the neighborhood!!
Tim always wanted to play music ever since he got obsessed with the Beatles and learned guitar at age 15. It gave him hope that there was something else out there besides Wal-Mart. He went to College and fell in love with a girl called Michelle, the first thing that ever felt good and new in a long time. But he still was not happy... what was he doing in school?!?....just learning politics and playing Frisbee. He went nuts eventually because of this disconnect between his dreams and his reality, and he lost his girlfriend in a very melodramatic fashion, dropped out of University, and finally ran away to London in 2004, a place far away enough that would not know him, or allow him to run back home give up so easily.
He lived in Londontown for a few years, here and there (sometimes sleeping on buses or the at airport), with only a cheap acoustic guitar he had christened "Michelle," and was determined to form a band, writing songs about the small town he had grown up in, lost love, and struggling to be accepted in a big dirty city where you can never be truly accepted, where anonymity is your refuge but also your enemy.
Presently, Tim and the other Michelles, Graeme and Julian, live in East Berlin, Germany. After being in London for a while we needed a break and a fresh start.
